The “IDEA” of You

Explore and examine diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (IDEA) for the individual within an organization. This module supports self-reflection and examines how you see the world. Understand the effects of your perspective and lens on your experience and the development of your teaching practice/pedagogy.

The Best “IDEA”

Learn how to integrate responsive inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility (IDEA) practices into personal, professional, and academic spaces. Explore the histories of equity deserving groups and how you can engage in sustainable, inclusive, and equitable practice.

The International Learning Lens

Students enter the Western world with a unique perspective of culture, life, politics, and beliefs. These lenses underlie their everyday life – inside and outside of the classroom. Learn about the international student learning lens, the implications on your practice, and your role in easing the transition.

HEY, I'M JANELLE!

I look forward to learning with you and growing as educators. The IDEA (inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility) growth process is complex – I hope I can support you through it as we learn a to reflect on our own perspectives and pedagogical approaches.

Janelle Abela, PhD(s), is a proud Black and South Asian woman who utilizes her privilege and experiences to fortify powerful changes in education and training. As an experienced educator, Janelle works to nurture the value of diversity by expanding content and current approaches.

Janelle founded Diverse Solutions Strategy Firm Inc., after meeting like-minded educators and finding it imperative that a realistic means of change is created outside of the progressive education system. Janelle works to create a mutual understanding between individuals that allows for respect and dignity and integrates intersectionality. Janelle is an active philanthropist, business advisor, and educational consultant.

Janelle is currently researching barriers to diversity, equity, and inclusion professional development.
